About the course

Return and Reintegration

This e-course on Return and Reintegration represents an edited version of the online training carried out in 2021. The course is of intermediate level, covering all stages of the return process. It aims to provide knowledge on return and reintegration programs and thereby strengthen the capacities of state actors to understand, manage and put essential elements into practice. The course raises awareness on information, decision-making and preparation for return. Course participants will gain insight into multi-level collaboration and an overview of existing policies and persisting challenges. Moreover, the e-course addresses some important aspects for the day-to-day work of return advisors.

This course features two trainers with year-long experience in this area - Glen Swan and Joris Kennis. First, Glen Swan introduces the topic and explains why assisting return and reintegration is important. He then outlines the difference between voluntary and forced return before addressing long-term reintegration assistance. Meanwhile, Joris Kennis addresses return counselling, its stages and tools, while also focusing on the profiles of returning migrants. He further explains the complexity of return decision-making and introduces components of sustainable return and reintegration.
